STAY IN TOUCH
Lecce, 1999
She lives and works between Milan and Lecce
Valentina Schito absorbs from the landscapes of her childhood in Salento a symbolic reality imbued with forms stemming from folk tales, from "li cunti." Her artistic practice is thus formed in an imaginary made up of sacred and profane icons that converge in a craftwork made of materials that nature makes
at her disposal: olive wood, fir wood and the skin of the prickly pear plant.
Angelica Lucia Raho
Originally from Salento, the artist maintains an indissoluble link with the expressive imagery,
cultural and aesthetic of its place of origin. The taste of the ancient sublime, which is revealed in his works, refers to the aged surfaces of Lecce stone, to the colours, shapes and symbols of the Apulian land.
Valentina Schito is fascinated by symbolism and iconography , which she uses in her works: the
strong religious roots of her native land led her to re-read the forms of ancient religious icons in a contemporary key and to instill philosophy.

The icon is the visible of the invisible
The artist redesigns the function of the icon, creating new formal allegories that contain an aura, an air full of meaning that is whispered through the work, creating a moment of soundless intimacy. An inner whisper in the dimension of Valentina Schito's work.
The frame becomes a picture and the picture is the shape
The Phenomenology of Neuroaesthetics Series , made up of seven elements, contains a part of the artist's philosophical-scientific research, in particular on the phenomenon of radiolarian protozoa.
These ancient forms of microorganisms are combined with the artist's idea of icon, creating works that are neither icons nor symbols
They are the icon containers and frames within which the icon lives.
The almost hypnotic shape that Valentina Schito gives to her works is enveloped in an allegorical aura , inviting the viewer to look and wonder about it.

Valentina Schito in the Dinamismo 23 series combines the terms of language, understood as a system of symbols equipped with a vocabulary and a grammar, and geometry, in the meaning of science that deals with forms on the plane and in space and their mutual relationships.
The artist defines in the work an objectification of subjectivity, or rather a mental abstraction in which we strip objects of their identity to represent them in a mathematical space.
